Amazing Property Renewal on Kawagama Lake in Dorset, Ontario

Artisan Landscapes was contacted to come to an existing family cottage on Kawagama Lake just outside of Dorset, Ontario (45 minutes from Huntsville, Ontario) to give the property a fresh new look that would have long-lasting utility and add to the visual appeal of the cottage. Our project management team devised a design, and our hardscape and softscape crews came together to bring the project to fruition.
FRONT ENTRANCE LANDSCAPING AND FOUNDATION PLANTINGS:
Install a granite stair access with granite retaining and perennial planting spaces to the two sides of the house facing the driveway. Remove all trees and invasive weeds from the area. Install seven 5’ granite stair treads and granite feature stones to create a front access that ties into the featured perennial planting areas on both sides of the house. Front stair access would have two five-foot granite flagstone landings for comfortable access while maximizing driveway space. Granite feature stones will be used to create displays in the open garden areas, while fitted walls will retain stairs and separate gardens from the driveway area. All perennial planting areas will be prepped with premium topsoil and ready for planting. All perennial plantings will be installed and designed for beautiful blooming displays throughout the spring, summer, and fall seasons. All planting areas will be dressed with mulch to help retain moisture and control weeds.

BACK DECK AREA:
Install timber retaining walls where necessary. Backfill retaining walls with wood piles to amend the grade, allow for better drainage, and prevent erosion. Install timber retaining wall by basement doors, furnished with a live-edge wood slab, and install patio slabs of the customer’s choosing in the remaining areas under the deck. This will create an outdoor barbecue area. Install river rock where necessary to prevent erosion from drainage coming from the driveway side of the house. Blend the grade of the patio stones into the existing lawn and dress all areas disturbed by machines with topsoil and grass seed.

Last year we went looking for a company who could help us with landscaping and cleaning up the outside of our cottage.
